Supervisory Medical Support Assistant

The Supervisory MSA has responsibility for the administrative support functions to include verifying and capturing insurance, updating patient's demographics through the patient registration menu, administrative processing associated with beneficiary travel, and scheduling/appending ancillary tests to ensure orders are executed as written. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assigns and evaluates the work of subordinate staff Resolves complex problems to ensure patient services are met Evaluates new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations Identifies educational or training needs and makes final decisions on selections Evaluates performance and takes disciplinary action when necessary. Recommends improvement processes for more efficient operations and recommends training needs for improvement. Incumbent has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing MSA activities and overseeing the activities of the MSAs. Responsible for ensuring correct and consistent data is entered into VA systems/programs in a timely manner. Ensures all enrollments are completed as policy directs and are suspended until completion and final approval. Manages a myriad of enrollment/eligibility reports through data input and extraction. Collaborates with the inpatient ward administrator on collection of patient funds and ensures mechanisms are in place for the security of funds until deposited. Monitors funds to ensure withdrawals are completed when patients are discharged and keeps program in audit-ready status at all times. Ensures management of the Decedent Affairs and CHAMPVA programs. Provides program reports as needed and as requested by the supervisor or other MAS leadership. Work Schedule:

Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, MUST DEMONSTRATE EXPERIENCE IN RESUME Education. One year above high school; OR, MUST SUBMIT COPY OF SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Example:
Three months general administrative experience and 12 semester hours of college credit. MUST DEMONSTRATE EXPERIENCE IN RESUME AND SUBMIT COPY OF SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT Certification. None required English Language Proficiency. Medical Support Assistants must be proficient in spoken and written English, as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties in a patient support setting, which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements . Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training related to administrative functions in a patient support setting . References:

The work is primarily sedentary and walking. The work requires the ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously in dealing with a wide variety of clients on a daily basis. Tasks will require prolonged use of computers. There are lengthy periods of sitting, interrupted by intervals of walking and climbing stairs about the medical center to make the many personal contacts required of this position.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
