This position serves as the Painter for the Alexandria VA Health Care System. This position works under the direct supervision of the Chief, Maintenance and Operations Section. Install, modify, and repair walls. General repair works with cracks in masonry, deteriorated caulking compounds and other materials to assure surfaces are prepared to receive paint or wall covering so no marks or rough areas are visible when paint or wall covering is in place. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing painting activities with dry wall within and out of the buildings, sidewalk. Select and uses the proper equipment and tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, compressors, scraper, straight edges, scaffold and ladders. Work with all types of paints and related components of crafts required to accomplish assigned duties, such as water, rubber alkyd base, oils, enamels, varnishes, epoxy and paint removers. Will apply knowledge of spray compressors, nozzle's and all related spraying equipment. Embosses signs, paints traffic lines and directional signs by lettering or stencil, paint boundary fences, light posts and fire hydrants. Ins Installs wallpaper to be secure, smooth and clean, without wrinkles, gaps or over-laps tall vinyl, yarn type, construction and face wall covering. Knowledge in mixing and applying adhesives by methods and means strictly in accordance with manufacturer's directions. Knows how to redecorate offices, wards, corridors, dining halls, living quarters, and shop buildings. Paints and refinishing furniture, wood and metal, such as desk cabinets, chairs, operating room and laundry equipment. Experienced with all types of paints and related components of crafts required to accomplish assigned duties, such as water, rubber alkyd base, oils, enamels, varnishes, epoxy and paint removers. Knowledge on installing vinyl wall coverings, hanging paper, etc. Knowledge on how to cut, stencil, painting signs and blending and mixing colors. Applies special finishing techniques such as marbling and graining. Plans and lays out the work plan for repair works with cracks in masonry, deteriorated caulking compounds and other materials to assure surfaces are prepared to receive paint or wall covering so no marks or rough areas are visible when paint or wall covering is in place. The incumbent paints, repairs, and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires the painter to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The painter frequently handles, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Occasionally, the painter may lift and carry items that weigh over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Painters are able to perform work while wearing a respirator or other breathing apparatus. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
