MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus six years of professional engineering experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required experience.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.
NOTE:
Engineering experience gained prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.
NOTE:

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over a small staff of engineers, other professionals, engineering technicians, or others who assist in specific assignments. A substantial portion of the work supervised is comparable to that performed by an engineer in the professional engineering training series.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineer 4 by the required responsibility for direct supervision over small staff of engineers, other professionals, engineering technicians or others.
Differs from Engineer 6 DOTD by the staff level/size and/or by the scope/complexity of assigned projects/programs.
Examples of Work:
Supervises, coordinates and reviews the work of a small staff of engineers, other professionals or technicians; estimates personnel needs, and schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates.
Coordinates and directs an important engineering project/program or several smaller projects/programs, ensuring quality of work performed meets established standards.
Serves as project engineer, providing supervision, layout and inspection of major complex construction projects for an assigned area of the state.
Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods, and represents DOTD in conferences to resolve important questions and/or to plan or coordinate work.
